The Sony Ericson 2012 sees the return of both Venus Williams and Alisa Kleybanova after taking time off for serious medical conditions. Venus Williams announced last year that she was diagnosed with an auto immune disease called Sjogren’s syndrome, which causes joint paint and fatigue. Kleybanova, left the tennis scene for 10 months to be treated for and recover from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Both of these women should be an inspiration to all of us. They have not let their medical condition control their lives rather they are controlling their medical condition. They display the strength and will of a true athlete. As the mother of a tennis playing child with a medical condition, I want to thank these two women for sharing their story and their strength. They are positive role models for what makes a real athlete.
Venus made the return to Miami with a 6-o, 6-3 win over Japanese Kimiko Date-Krumm in 1 hour and 17 minutes. To read more about the win follow the link to Venus Williams Make Winning Return in Miami at The1Lackster Tennis Blog.
