Pack the Bags, It’s Almost Summer Time.

Have you found the perfect family vacation spot that just happens to have tennis courts at the ready?

If you have found the perfect tennis get-a-way please share it with the rest of us.  Two of my favorite places where Jekyll Island, Georgia and The Dunes in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The courts on Jekyll Island were tucked  away from the road and the ocean and surrounded by beautiful greenery.  You felt like you where in the middle of a jungle.  The sounds of the birds was the only sound other than the beautiful sound of the ball hitting the court.  The beach was perfect for going for a run after a few hours of training on the court.  (Just to be clear, I let the kids train and run while enjoyed the sun and the waves).  Instead of a hotel we were able to rent condos on the beach that also provided us with beach volley ball, a pool and hot tub.  It was a great vacation for both the tennis and non-tennis players in the family.  Just happened to pair it up with a tournament.

The Dunes in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a golf and tennis country club.  It was several years ago but hope it is still there.  The courts here are close enough to the ocean that you can hear the waves and feel the mist.  The only draw back was the sun burn.  Again a great vacation spot for the whole family.  Condos on the beach are a time a dozen with lazy rivers, hot tubs, multiple pools and incredible beaches.  The kids also enjoyed the mini-putt and speed way.  While the grown-ups enjoyed the food and relaxation. Again we managed to sneak a tournament into the vacation.

Let’s save each other a little time and effort and share our favorite tennis vacation spots.

  1. That beach is fabulous!! And of course the picture-taker deserves some credit for capturing it.

  2. Great spots. I also like Sea Pines or Port Royal on Hilton Head. And talk about great trees – Amelia Island Plantation in FL.
